illegal immigration rebuttal

For my research paper I am writing about how illegal immigration has a positive effect and necessary for the economy to thrive. Therefore my rebuttal topic would be “Illegal Immigration has a Negative effect to the economy”.  The article I am reading says that a negative impact is on government expenditures saying undocumented workers generally don’t pay income taxes but do use schools and other government services. The article says they are seen as a drain on government spending. I would like to counteract this by first noting that immigrants no matter what their status are DO pay some sort of taxes (The illegal immigrant I interviewed pays taxes). Some immigrants though do not pay state and federal income taxes. This is only because most illegal immigrants are paid “under the table” and like a teenage babysitter does not pay taxes but generally receive below minimum wage. Also these workers cannot receive unemployment checks. But then again many illegal immigrants work in the formal economy and suffer the exact same tax deductions we citizens do. As for addressing that illegal immigrants use more public services than they pay in taxes… majority of immigrants are prime working age, and ineligible for many public services and tend to contribute more to the public sector than they actually use. However they do tap into local services such as schools or libraries. This does cause a burden to the local governments, but citizens also tend to use more in local services than they pay in taxes. A recent study in California has shown that immigrants (documented and undocumented) are likely to pay taxes then they are to use public services. This is because they live in fear of revealing themselves to any government authorities. But living in the United States means that you cannot avoid all public services. Most immigrants use public school systems, emergency medical care, and public safety (prisons and police). These services are known as MANDATED SERVICES, which federally require state government to provide to all people, regardless of immigration status. The only true burden service immigrants use are food assistance programs. And many who take advantage of the food assistance programs are not immigrants but native born US children of the immigrants.
