Arguments Against Organic Foods ------- Katie Anderson
With my topic of my research analysis focusing
on the pros to eating organically grown foods and trying to be more aware of
what we are putting into our bodies, the big question that arises from many is
the price difference between eating organic produce or just eating healthy
verses eating conventionally grown foods.
It is evident that organically grown foods do cost more than
conventionally grown foods and this is because of the production process. Many
argue that it is not worth the extra cents or sometimes dollars that it costs
in order to buy organic food over conventionally grown foods. In 2010, the Mother Nature Network, which is
a health foods network, states that organic carrots were thirty-nine percent
more than conventionally grown carrots and organic eggs were one hundred and
fifteen percent more than conventionally grown eggs. So with this said, the price difference can
vary greatly. This is because the products and the production
is more expensive when you’re growing organic foods as compared to conventional
foods. Some
health conscious consumers choose to pay 40 to 120 percent more for organic
foods and products while the general population still prefers to save their
money and take their chances. Others
may also argue that there is a chance that soil from conventionally grown foods
may run off into organic farms which will then contaminate the organic foods
and this will lead people to argue that they should not buy organic foods. The chances of this are very slim and there
is really not much that organic farmers can do about this. One way to prevent this is through the
farming technique of cover crops. This
is the use of having extremely strong roots for the crops in order to avoid
soil runoff. With all of this said,
there are many arguments that society will bring up against organic farming,
but there is than having a couple extra dollars in my pocket.

My Space Jam - Sarah Anne Semke
I had never seen the Kid
President video until today. I found it to be the cutest, sweetest video but
also incredibly inspiring and touching. Hearing this small child speak about
making a difference actually made me stop and think what my “space jam” will
be. It made me think about what I want to do that children and adults alike
will look up to and aspire to be one day.
As I am an elementary education major I want my impact to be within the
classroom. My goal is to be the teacher that changes student’s opinions on
school and learning in a positive way. The teacher that inspired me to pursue a
career in education left a lasting impression on me. She was compassionate,
enthusiastic about her job, and cared deeply for her students. She transformed me
from a shy, nervous fourth grader into a confident outgoing rising fifth
grader. I am forever grateful for the impact she had on me and looking back,
fourth grade was a major turning point for me academically and socially that
has gotten me to where I am today.
I also want to change the
lives of young students and inspire them to work hard and reach their full
potential. I want to create a learning environment that will lead to the future
leaders of our nation. I want to create a classroom full of future CEOs,
doctors, and politicians that will lead our country in a positive direction in
the next generation.
I believe one aspect lacking in education is a focus on community building and
helping others. Teachers get so caught up in assuring academic success that
sometimes giving back to the community takes the way side. I want my classroom
to not only focus on growing academically but also growing as good stewards of the
community.
I hope that my space jam is
the children I will help reach their full potential as not only academic
students but also as compassionate, helpful citizens.
Space Jam
Throughout watching the three-minute video “Pep Talk from Kid
President to You” I was up hauled by the remarks made by a smart kid at such a
young age. His reference to Michael
Jordan and the movie “Space Jam” grabbed my attention because I studied Jordan
as a young boy and his story helped me to over come adversity through
life. Like this young boy I really enjoy
the movie as a child and still find it great as I grow up. My Space Jam could
be a variety of different things and to find the one that will make an impact
will be tough to accomplish but through hard work and a good attitude I feel as
though I can make an impact in the golf world.
As many recreationalists find the game of golf as a hobby I find it as
my future to promote the welfare of the game.
As a Professional Golf Management major here at Clemson University I am
striving to become the best teacher of the game that I can be to help others
succeed. Throughout my childhood I
always wanted to teach the game and to help many people in becoming better as
well as increasing enjoyment for all players.
I am working on finding the best way to teach students of the game to
improve by studying many different teachers of the game. My curriculum through the next four years
will provide a base to impact many people in the industry. I am striving towards finding the true
science of a golf swing by studying all different techniques and
strategies. Although no two people have
the exact same swing in the entire world there are ways to create similarities
to what is wrong and what is right within the golf swing. Decreasing the gaps between different
techniques to find the best way to teach is what I will try to accomplish as my
Space Jam.

My Legacy- Andrew Anderson
Back when I was a kid I remember Space Jam as one of my
favorite movie. I used to rock out to
the sound track with my friends, which is actually one of my fondest memories of
childhood. Now unlike the little kid in
the video, I do not view Michael Jordan’s legacy as this movie. When I think of the legacy Michael Jordan
left and continues to leave, I think of 6 time NBA champion, 5 time NBA most
valuable player, 14 time NBA All Star, record for highest career points, and
many, many more. But this is all beside
the point; the purpose of this blog post is to say what kind of legacy I want
to leave. I have thought a lot about
this before and during college because what major I choose will lead me to the
legacy I will leave. I have always
wanted to join the Army and after college I plan on following through with
that. This summer I am going to go
through basic training to be in the Army National Guard. I think this will be temporary until I join
the Army, but that is my plan for during college. I think that alone leaves quite the legacy.
After the army, I want to become a distiller.
I find everything about brewing and distilling absolutely fascinating. It has been in my family for generations and
I want to continue that on. Whether I
work for an already established distiller or I start my own brand and use my
family recipe, that is what I want to do with my life. Now I am not exactly sure what type of legacy
that will leave, but I hope people think of me as brave, strong, fun loving,
and adventurous. I want people to
remember me after I am gone and I want that to be a good thing.
Space Jam - Shelby Stephens
I had never heard about this video until this assignment, but
I loved it. The kid president is adorable, and though he may be young, he has
some wise words that I think we all need to hear. I think a lot of people
nowadays really do need pep talks. It is so easy sometimes to get complacent
with ourselves and our lives and we take a lot of things for granted. Like he
says in the video, we just need to be happy we’re alive and that we have air
coming through our noses. Also, I know at least in my case, I don’t always
strive to be the best I can be. I should do everything to the best of my
ability, but often I just do the bare minimum to get by. That’s not how it
should be, I should choose to be on “the path to awesome”, just like kid
president says. This also applies to what, after some consideration, I have
chosen as “my space jam”. It is something that could be very vague, and I might
not ever know I have accomplished it. This is why I should always be on my path
to awesome. My space jam in life is to make a difference in someone else’s. It doesn’t
have to be any kind of deep, profound, life-altering difference; I just want to
be able to feel like I have impacted someone positively in my time on this
earth. More specifically, I would like to help someone grow closer to God or to
help them accept Christ. If I can do that, whether I am aware of my influence
on someone or not, then I know I will feel like my life was meaningful and that
I didn’t waste my time here. The kid president says in his pep talk that we’re
all on the same team in the game of life; my space jam is to help someone be
victorious in their game.

Kid President- Barney Williams
Aside from being inspiring on the surface, there is a deeper level to this video when pertaining to the michael jordan part of the video. A valid point was made with the space jam movie aspect. If michael jordan had of quit there would be plenty of things that would have never of been such as the shoe line, his commercials, and of course his basketball career among many other things but the fact that out of everything the kid president mentioned space jam, a seemingly small part of his career. By doing this it infers that you do not have to change the world to add something awesome as he puts it. You simply have to do what you can with what you have. Big and small these acts of goodness add to the idea of life as a whole. We are all on one team as he puts it; the team of life. It is not one persons contribution to this world that makes it awesome but rather a combination of contributions. The small things such as space jam and the big things such as michael jordan's career as a whole. There are so many parts to life that make it as awesome and beautiful as it is today. We all play our own part in it and as a result each have a role in this awesome team (life) that we are on. The overall message is basically as said before do what you can with what you have and add to the beauty of the world. Another way to look at it is seeing the world as a huge jigsaw puzzle. We are all a piece of the puzzle and while some pieces are bright and stick out others are dim and blend in but when you take a step back and look at the picture as a whole its beauty can be recognized. We all have a part to play in this puzzle. Do what you can with what you have to add to it.
Chelsea Green-My Space Jam
I first saw this video at the
beginning of this month and it has been a video that I’ve found myself going
back to and watching over and over again. It’s so inspiring and it warms my
heart to know that a kid has such an adult-like vision for our society. The pep
talk really had me thinking about what I have done to impact the world and make
a positive change to it. My answer is nonexistent as of now, but watching this
video makes me want to be a better person for the sake of the world. For a
while I’ve been a “boring person” as Kid President would call me and I haven’t
really done much to change the world. My excuse has been, “I’m in college, I
don’t have the time”, but I realized that anyone can make time for something
they care about. The other day I got an email about being involved around
campus and an interest meeting for Habitat For Humanity caught my eye. I guess
this can be my Space Jam. I’ve always had a passion for helping others, but I
simply never made the time to do so. In joining this organization, I hope to improve
the lives of people who are less fortunate, and hopefully finally make some
friends here who have the same passion of helping others that I have. I’ve done
enough thinking about what I can do to better the world and myself I live in, now
I want to put those thoughts into action. Just a small gesture could mean the
world to someone and the thought of me contributing to the wellbeing of others
warms my heart. A little goes a long way. Not everyone has to make huge changes
to make a change in the world, but if everyone’s small efforts are combined, we
can surely change the world together.
"Here's your chance, do your dance at the Space Jam" Mariah Lawrence
Okay first of all, as everyone else has said, this kid is the bomb. I absolutely adore him! This is the first time I have seen this video and it was exactly what I needed this week. I put so much pressure on myself and trying to fit life into the plan I’ve made for myself. This shows me that it might not always be what I want that happens to me, the universe has a big roll in it. I am a very spiritual person and I do believe that the world has a plan and I believe in Karma, and I believe that everything happens for a reason. I would like to say that, since I am a pre-vet major, that my “Space Jam” is to make a difference in the life of animals. In reality, my goal is so much more simple than that; I just want to make a difference to someone or something. The way the kid president describes Michael Jordan (definitely almost typed “Jackson”) really highlights the point I want to get across. He says that if Michael Jordan never played basketball, “Space Jam” would never have been created. He didn’t talk about how the world had been changed forever by his insane baller skills. He talked about something that seems so insignificant in his career as a whole, but that is what made a difference to him! Basically what I’m saying is that I don’t want to change the world, I can live my entire life happily without my name meaning something to the entire world. I just want to make a small, significant difference in someone’s life. Wether it’s fixing their pet, or being the friend they can always count on, or teaching a little girl to do her first plié. I’m not looking to be a magical garden blooming with innovation and change, I simply want to be a single flower in that garden that can grow and develop while sharing a little bit of fertilizer here and there.
My Space Jam - Rebecca Leary
The first time I saw ‘A Pep Talk from Kid President to You’,
my sister had put it on my Facebook wall for me to watch. Then, I started
seeing it all over the Internet. I could honestly watch this video on repeat
without it ever getting old because it gets more and more motivational every
time I watch it. And really, how awesome is it that such a young kid has such
an inspiring frame of mind? It really does make you question what your “space
jam” will be. Personally, my space jam will be to make a difference in the
field of education through a career in inclusive special education. My space
jam of making a difference in education ties in closely with the topic of my
research paper, special education inclusion. In my experience working with
special needs students, I have come to see that they are truly the same as
anyone else in this world, if not better. The students that I had the privilege
to work with are the most eager and accepting people that I have ever met, and
these students deserve the chance to be challenged and excel at a higher level
in an inclusive classroom rather than being isolated in a classroom labeled
“special needs”. Through my space jam, I want to work towards a future in
special education, and then I want to take the knowledge I will have gained
into a classroom setting, but I want this classroom to be an inclusive
classroom. I want the chance to prove that inclusive classrooms can work, so
that I can inspire other educators to teach in inclusive classrooms. From this,
I hope more and more schools will move towards inclusive education. With an
inclusive classroom setting, all educators and students will build because they
will be experiencing learning by bettering themselves while also helping to
better others.

I too loved the movie "Space Jam" while growing up. It was the first movie I had ever seen that employed live actors with cartoons and it rocked my world! It makes me really happy to think that kids today are still being inspired by it like I was when I was young. It just goes to show that movies are timeless and can be enjoyed over and over with each generation.
I also wish that this post was easier for me to write. I wish that I knew exactly what I wanted to do with my life and that I had the perfect plan on how to leave my mark on the world; but I do not. I do hope that the little things I do now count as "my space jam" because it's really all I have to show. I think one of the major misconceptions of the video is that in order to change the world you have to go out and make a major motion picture or something of equally epic proportions. I think it's just as respectable to try and change the world through little, every-day actions: politeness, patience and respect towards others, for example. In the beginning of the clip, he states that "we should all play for the same team." I think this was my favorite message of the video. So much of what I've observed recently seems to lead me to the same conclusion, people are so cruel to one another. All I hear are harsh judgements and assumptions about strangers based on their appearance and how "he" or "she" or "they" are terrible because of reasons "A" "B" and "C". I'm so tired of it. I'm not much of a spiritual person but I can feel all the negativity dragging me down until I feel like I have nothing left. I'm self conscious because of all the harsh comments I hear every day. I'm terrified of trying something new because of how judgmental people are. Life is not a competition, it's cereal! we're all fruit loops swimming in the same milky ocean trying to get by. You don't need to put other down, because it won't raise you any higher. I'm so sick of everyone thinking that insulting people will make what they do better. Why does everything have to have a winner and loser? Why can't more than one person succeed?
If I can ever figure out a way to get that message across to society- I think that will be "My Space Jam"

Kid President- Christine
I really enjoyed this video and its methods of
inspiring our youth. The kid reminds me a lot of my best friend who says she’s going
to run for president someday. She talks about her campaign and what she’d do as
president all the time and I think it’s hilarious, but I know that’s her space
jam. For me, the parts of the video that stuck out most were when the kid was
saying that we need to stop being boring. He said were not going to accomplish
anything if we keep sitting here. I took these words to heart because he’s
right. I feel like everyday everyone just tries to be normal, act, think, and
look normal. Well normal is extremely boring, and our kid president told us to
stop being boring. My space jam going to be for me to get more involved in
world travel. I want to make lifelong friends across the world. I know from
experience that travel is the most rewarding thing in the world and I just want
to continue to share my culture with others while absorbing other’s cultures. I
need to seriously get off this computer and walk to the study abroad office
right now. I want to spend at least three semesters abroad, especially summers.
Getting involved with travel groups and meeting new people from around the
world just makes me feel well rounded and experienced. I want to see the points
of view of people across the globe and the only way to truly do so is by
experiencing their lives first hand, by traveling. My goal is to learn to say “yes”
more often. When offered any opportunity I am no longer going to wait for
someone else to take it. I am going to say yes to any opportunity that could
possibly get me involved and meeting new and diverse people. I want to “give
the world a reason to dance” and I want to do so by showing the rest of the
world the American dance, while also learning theirs.

Molly B. Space Jam
-->
I have seen the “Kid President” Pep-Talk video a few times
in the past, and each time I watch it I become more and more inspired. The video is well put together and helps
viewers to really step back and look at the “big picture.” I believe that this video helps people really
see just how important they are in this world.
Each individual being on this planet can either watch the world go by,
or, they can make a difference. I thoroughly
believe that each and every one of us is capable of making a change, and each
one of these changes can make the world a better place for us all.
After
sitting and watching this video a few times, I realized what my personal “Space
Jam” really is. I plan on becoming a
nurse in the United States Air Force and my “Space Jam” is America’s wounded
warriors. Although as a nurse in the
military, I most likely will not be seeing much combat, it has always been my
dream to serve my country. From a young
age my Grandfather, a former WWII Naval Aviator, inspired me to take up a career
that is not only serviceable, but also rewarding in so many ways. As I grew older, I saw what it really meant
to feel a “calling.” On September 11th,
2001, I was only an innocent first grade student, seemingly oblivious to what
was going on in our country’s chaotic state.
But even at that young age, I felt something rising within me that I
would never be able to ignore. My
parents explained to me what the word “patriotism” meant not long after the
terrorist attacks occurred. Finally,
someone could explain to me this feeling I felt deep inside. I found myself glued to the television every
night throughout elementary school, but it was not cartoons I was busy
watching. I found myself extremely
engaged in the programs shown on the history and military channels. The first time I ever cried listening to a
song was in fourth grade after hearing Toby Keith’s “American Soldier” on the
radio. And on the day of my
Grandfather’s death I swore to myself that I would serve my country in any way
I could.
As I aged,
I realized that health and sciences were something I really could grasp and
appreciate. It was not long before I
decided to take the route of becoming a nurse in the military through the
AFROTC program the college I chose to attend.
I believe that our nation’s wounded warriors are more than just
heroes. They do not merely protect our
way of life, nor do they simply follow the orders of their superiors—they put
themselves in harms way for each and every one of us every day. I am proud to say that it will one day be my
job to care for these heroes and my “Space Jam.”
